Preludio Y Tango for flute ensemble is a short two-movement composition evoking the idioms and emotions associated with the Latin tango. The first movement is a prelude and invitation to the dance; trills and fluctuating textures imitate the nervous energy of a dancer waiting for the music to begin. The Tango, which leads from the Prelude without pause, contains brisk rhythms and lush melodies inspired by the sensual art of the Brazilian dance. Preludio Y Tango was composed for the Dana Flute Ensemble, and premiered at the National Flute Association Convention in Washington, D.C.
